Inclement Weather

Trash & Recycling Pickup Services for Madison Area and Southern Wisconsin

Please see information below for delays, rescheduling, and general reminders. We will update this page as the storm progresses. (Last updated at 4/3/24 3:51 p.m.)

  • Inaccessible roads:  There will likely be some roads that inaccessible due to snow/ice at the time we went through the area, especially carriage lanes, alleyways, and rural roads.
  • Grandview Commons:  Several carriage lanes were not accessible due to snow/ice when we came through for trash collection. We will return on Friday, 4/5. Please leave your cart out Thursday night or by 6:00 a.m. on Friday to be on the safe side.
  • Different timing:  Many residential routes had to be run in a different manner to allow plows more time to clear challenging areas (ex: hills). Pickup times may have been different today than residents are used to, either earlier or later. We recommend carts be out by 6:00 a.m. or the night before every week, as other factors can affect pickup time even when there's not inclement weather.
  • Wind: High winds are expected with the 4/3/24 storm. If materials in carts are not bagged, excessive wind may create wind-blown litter. For safety, the drivers are not able to get out at every stop to clean up. (If you bag your recycling, please use clear/transparent plastic bags.)
  • Cart Placement: To help with plowing efforts and help prevent tipped over carts, please place your carts on the terrace or in your driveway, not in the road, and not on top of snowbanks. You may need to shovel out an area for your carts. Please keep carts 4 feet away from each other and any other obstructions to prevent them from being tipped over during service, or not serviced at all.
  • Knocked over carts: Drivers are not able to collect carts that are knocked over and cannot get out at every stop to upright them due to time constraints and safety concerns. If you're home and you see your cart has been tipped over, please set the carts upright if you're able to prior to our arrival so they can be serviced.
  • Safety: Thank you for your understanding! We realize not receiving collection creates difficulties for residents and businesses. There are multiple factors that impacted the decisions that have to be made regarding delays or cancellations, including landfill closures, road conditions, truck capabilities, time constraints, and safety for our drivers and the community.

Pickup times may be different than normal due to driving conditions. During winter, please remember to keep your carts and/or dumpsters accessible by clearing the area of snow and ice to ensure service. Do not place your carts on top of snow piles or in the street. To sign up for email alerts for weather-related and holiday schedule changes, please click here or download our mobile app
