Household hazardous material that requires specific methods of disposal

 

Special Waste

Household hazardous wastes, paint, and chemicals are not to be disposed of in the trash. Items that contain the following require special handling and disposal:

  • Batteries
  • Explosives
  • Gasses
  • Solvents
  • Corrosives
  • Chemicals (including pool chemicals)
  • Poisons
  • Biological hazards including needle

Please use your county's household hazardous waste program.

Do not put batteries in the carts—they can ignite and start a fire. Visit Call2recycle.org for a nearby drop-off site. 

Do not place any hot ashes in the carts—you will start a fire. You are responsible for any damages to the carts.

*Dane County Clean Sweep is also available to Columbia County residents. Residents outside of Dane and Columbia may pay a higher rate.  

Do NOT put any batteries in your trash or recycling containers. They can ignite and start fires. 

If you need to recharge an item, then it has a battery. Don't throw it out.
