Special Waste

Household hazardous wastes, paint, and chemicals are not to be disposed of in the trash. Items that contain the following require special handling and disposal:

  • Batteries
  • Explosives
  • Gasses
  • Solvents
  • Corrosives
  • Chemicals (including pool chemicals)
  • Poisons
  • Biological hazards including needle

Please use your county's household hazardous waste program.

Do not put batteries in the cartsthey can ignite and start a fire. Visit Call2recycle.org for a nearby drop-off site. 

Do not place any hot ashes in the cartsyou will start a fire. You are responsible for any damages to the carts.

*Dane County Clean Sweep is also available to Columbia County residents. Residents outside of Dane and Columbia may pay a higher rate.  

Do NOT put any batteries in your trash or recycling containers. They can ignite and start fires. 

If you need to recharge an item, then it has a battery. Don't throw it out.
